On October 30th, a group of York University students will have the opportunity to work with professionals from the Black Creek Community Farm. Participants will be introduced to the social determinants of health in the Black Creek neighbourhood, and be familiarized with the ideas of food security, social justice, and community development.

Through practical, hands-on experience, participants will gain an understanding of the role the farm is playing in the greater social ecosystem of the Black Creek area. They will also be introduced to other organizations operating in the area and what those organizations are doing.

This first project represents an opportunity to gain skills and experience in a real-world setting while applying knowledge gained in other studies. Don't miss this opportunity to build your experience and get involved in your local community.

Participants must be:

  • Enrolled as York University students
  • Available all day on Wednesday, October 30th (the program will last from 8:30am - 4:30pm)
  • Available to attend a mandatory information session the week before
